Hindø Kaffebrænderi in Sigerfjord, Sortland, was founded by Rune Tjønsø in 2013 — named after the family's historic Hindø Dampskipsselskap from 1893. The roastery began as a hobby in the basement and grew into a professional micro-roastery housed in a converted woodshed with its own shop. Rune roasts by the principle "When quality matters most" — each 250 g bag contains around 1 200 hand-picked coffee beans. He uses computer-programmed roast profiles tailored to every batch, and places great importance on paying producers fairly. The coffee is distributed in Vesterålen, Tromsø and through an online shop.
