Eide Handel on Kvaløya outside Tromsø is a family-run shop that has carried northern Norwegian food culture since 1953. Winner of Årets Salgskanal at Matprisen 2024. The shop combines groceries with its own production premises, a fish landing station, a bakery, a café and catering. Its own food range, Eide Heimelaga, was launched around 2010 and produces karbonader (pan-fried minced-meat patties), smoked salmon, sausages, fishcakes and soups based on old recipes and local ingredients from sea, mountain and farmland. In 2027 the shop reopens after refurbishment, and with it the town's only online shop offering home delivery of groceries. Eide Handel was established in 1953 and is now run by the third and fourth generations of grocers. The shop is independent and unaffiliated, but works with the MENY chain on grocery purchasing and online retail among other things, in order to stay competitive on price.
