ByBi — Oslos Urbane Birøkterlag is an environmental organisation set up as a local branch of Norges Birøkterlag, with its main base at Gartneriet (the nursery) at Bygdø Kongsgård. The organisation focuses on biodiversity and on how much pollinators matter to a healthy, climate-resilient city. ByBi produces exquisite honey with distinctive local signatures and offers introductory beekeeping courses, tasting evenings and professional gatherings for residents young and old. The network is made up of beekeepers, urban farmers, bee enthusiasts and city developers working to improve living conditions for pollinators through concrete measures such as Pollinatorpassasjen — an initiative aiming to provide food and shelter for pollinating insects every 250th metre from Østmarka to Nordmarka. ByBi works with businesses such as Thon Hotel Opera and hosts experiences at Gartneriet that combine nature, food and hands-on experience. The organisation also offers the chance to rent a honey-extraction room, and engages its network through membership, knowledge sharing and events.
