Rød Kjerringøy — a French-inspired washed-rind cheese — was named cheese of the year by Det Norske Måltid in 2011. The dairy also runs the summer café Markens Grøde, focusing on organic and local ingredients. Its philosophy is to work with the good bacteria instead of pasteurising.
